Golstein argues that the description in I Maccabees is too tidy. Many things had to be done before the rededication and the first sacrifice.
I Maccabees gives the impression that all this was arranged quickly but this was clearly not possible. First Goldstein had to work out how long it actually took. Given that it happened over a long period Goldstein wonders what Judah Maccabee and his followers were waiting for. He comes up with a rather convoluted explanation for the delay. |
