The days of the Temple are numbered.
Phase 4: ROME
The Roman Crassus plunders the Temple treasury.

20 BCE

Herod the Great starts to rebuild the Temple and enlarge it.
But he places a Roman eagle over the gate and some outraged Jews shatter it.
Herod has them summarily executed and never finishes the building work.

70 CE

(on the
9th of Av
again!)

Titus’s legions storm Jerusalem and level the city and the temple.
The Jewish zealots make their last stand against the Romans at the Hill garrison of Masada.
1000 of them, including women and children hold out against a 15,000 strong Roman army for 2 years.

The Romans take Masada and the zealots commit mass suicide rather than be taken as slaves.
